The Aging in Place Shaunavon Task Force has been conducting local focus groups in September and October to gain feedback and input from the community on what healthy aging in Shaunavon means, including the positive things and challenges related to growing older in Shaunavon. Based on this feedback along with other research, the Task Force will be making recommendations to Town Council regarding long term measures that may help to address the identified issues.

Through the research of the committee, a framework was identified that currently exists in the province that may be one option for engaging citizens in the long term, through establishment of an Age Friendly Shaunavon Committee.

You are invited to learn more about this possible initiative on October 20 at 1:30 pm via a Zoom meeting with representatives of Age Friendly Saskatchewan. Members of Age-Friendly Saskatchewan will share info about the global movement of creating inclusive communities to support and enable people of all ages to age actively. The eight Age-Friendly elements of Outdoor Spaces & Buildings, Transportation, Housing, Social Participation, Respect & Social Inclusion, Civic Participation & Employment Opportunities, Communication & Information, and Community Support & Health Services will be briefly discussed in a 15 minute presentation followed by questions from participants.

Please contact Wendy Thienes at 306-294-7383 or email wendy.thienes@gmail.com for details on how to join the meeting.
