WINTER WEATHER ARRIVES IN THE SOUTHWEST

With the current weather conditions including strong wind gusts and snowfall, Southern Saskatchewan is currently under extreme weather warnings.

Power outages across Southern Sask were experienced early this morning with SaskPower crews being dispatched. Thankfully, power has been restored townwide in Shaunavon and in many of the surrounding rural areas. Thank you to the incredible SaskPower crew members for your hard work and courage while braving these treacherous weather conditions.

Shaunavon & District EMO is here to help the community in many ways, including educating about emergency preparedness. Saskatchewan winters may hold unpredictible weather, including blizzards and high winds. Being as prepared as possible in the event of power outages etc. can reduce strain and allow us to help others during this time of need as well. Keep in mind the different seasons when planning and don’t forget the pets and what they will need.

Saskatchewan RCMP is urging residents to refain from travel if possible. They emphasize that if things look clear at your planned time of departure, make sure you still check the forecast and Highway Hotline as weather and road conditions can change very quickly: https://hotline.gov.sk.ca/mobile/ . CONCRETE DISPOSAL

Please note that effective immediately, the Town of Shaunavon will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING concrete at our lagoon facility. All concrete waste must be brought to the Southwest Waste Management Authority Landfill for disposal. They will accept all concrete waste at a cost of $25.00 per ton, charged to the individual who dropped it off.
