Shaunavon & District Fire & Rescue is changing it up this Boomtown Christmas!! SDFR will be collecting donations for the Shaunavon Food Bank during the Parade of Lights. Acceptable Items: Non-Perishable Food, Personal Care Items, Cleaning Supplies, Laundry Supplies or Cash Donation. Gather your items, and give them to one of our firefighters walking during the parade and share the holiday spirit with those in need!
The Town of Shaunavon would like to recognize Braydon Coburn for his accomplishments and contributions throughout his athletic career as he transitions into his retirement from the NHL.
Thank you Braydon for your generous contributions to our community of Shaunavon and youth hockey through the Braydon Coburn Hockey School. We are fortunate for your involvement in our town and are proud to have you be a part of Shaunavon. In honour of Braydon Coburn’s career accomplishments and contributions to Shaunavon, August 8th has been declared as Braydon Coburn Day.
Braydon Coburn grew up in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan where his love of hockey began. Coburn played most of his minor hockey in Shaunavon, prior to advancing to Midget AAA hockey to play for the Notre Dame Hounds, and later to major junior hockey to play with the WHL’s Winter Hawks. His skills and determination made him a top prospect for the NHL. Coburn began his NHL career when he was drafted 8th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. Braydon returned to the WHL and excelled, including when he competed in two World Junior Championships, winning silver in 2004 and gold in 2005.
In 2007, Coburn he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers where he went on to become one of the Flyers’ top defenders. A trade in 2015 placed him with Tampa Bay Lightning, leading him to be a part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2020. On November 11th 2021, Braydon Coburn officially announced his retirement from the NHL, following 983 regular-season NHL games over 16 years. Playing as a defenseman, Coburn still produced an impressive 234 points over the course of his career!
