The Town of Shaunavon has adopted the Bylaw No. 2022-03, known as the Fire Protection Bylaw, which states that the cost of fire prevention, suppression and emergency response services shall be charged directly to the property owners who receive the services in accordance with rates contained within the Fire Protection Bylaw.

The Town of Shaunavon is following suit with the surrounding rural municipalities who have been applying these fire call charges to property owners since the year 2002, with the formation of the Shaunavon and District Fire and Rescue 20 years ago. Therefore, it has been determined by the Town of Shaunavon that the Fire Protection Bylaw be adopted to proceed with a method of charging for fire calls that is consistent with the member rural municipalities and with a majority of other surrounding towns and rural municipalities.

These rates will be effective January 1st, 2023 to provide property owners time to ensure their policies are sufficient to meet their needs. We encourage all property owners to contact their insurance provider to discuss their policy coverages, as most policies may already include firefighter coverage.
