The Town of Shaunavon is happy to announce that our local Citizens on Patrol Program (C.O.P.P.) is launching! Shaunavon’s C.O.P.P. has 5 volunteer community members who signed up for the program. Volunteers have attended training sessions with local RCMP, Regional Bylaw Officer, and Regional Resilience Specialist and passed all Criminal Record Checks. They will begin patrolling in the community in the near future, accompanied by officers for their first rounds as their final piece of training. Volunteers will be wearing a vest to identify them as a Citizen on Patrol when on duty in the community.

What is C.O.P.P.? The Citizens on Patrol Program is a community led, police supported, Crime Prevention and Crime Reduction program in Saskatchewan.

How does it work? COPP volunteers will patrol areas of concern as directed by local RCMP, as well as higher traffic areas, school zones, and more. They are on the lookout for any suspicious or criminal activity, to record the activity and, where appropriate, to report it to the RCMP. The C.O.P.P. act as another set of eyes and ears for their community and their detachment, to assist in preventing and reducing crime.

Shaunavon C.O.P.P. is still looking for volunteers to be a part of this program, if you value safety and want to make a difference in your community, this is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to safe communities and safe homes in your area! Contact Drew Grainger (604) 319-1561 or Bonnie Lingenfelter at 306-297-2605 if you are interested in becoming a Citizen on Patrol!
