SEPTEMBER 30 IS NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH & RECONCILIATION (Orange Shirt Day)

The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

To commemorate this significant day, the Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre and Shaunavon Library have planned the following special events: OPENING RECEPTION: BI-GIWEN: COMING HOME, TRUTH TELLING FROM THE SIXTIES SCOOP Monday, September 30 from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Grand Coteau Centre Gallery. Details in the poster. TIPI RAISING, BANNOCK & BERRIES, and BEADING: Monday, September 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Park

STORY WALK, & INDIGENOUS GAMES: Read a story by an Indigenous author to learn more about the importance of the tipi and play some bames that would have traditionally been played by Indigenous people.

Note: if the weather is unfavourable, these outdoor events will be held at the CPWC Curling Rink.

Everyone is encouraged to wear the colour orange in recognition of the day.
