CAA School Zone Safety Assessments have been completed once again at Shaunavon’s three schools: Shaunavon Public School Shaunavon High School Christ the King School Since the initial assessments in 2022, all three school zones have been updated to include flashing crosswalk signs and radar speed detecting signs. “The results from the 2024 assessments are positive,” said Bonnie Lingenfelter, Regional Bylaw Officer, Town of Shaunavon, “[…] Although there is still work to do, the recent assessments in 2024 clearly show an improvement in behaviour from motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists in all three school zones.
The Town of Shaunavon is thrilled to announce that the Shaunavon Trail, Walkway Lighting project has been selected to receive a financial contribution from Trans Canada Trail (TCT) through the Trail Funding Program!
The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) grant from TCT has approved up to $36,350 to enhance our local section of Canada’s national trail. This project involves adding a total of 21 lights to the full 3km of trail through the Town of Shaunavon. “Trail use has so many benefits, both for individuals and for the community, but we need to make sure the Trail is safe and welcoming to all,” says Mathieu Roy, Chief Executive Officer of Trans Canada Trail. “Adding lights to this section of the Trail will help more people enjoy the trail year-round and we are excited to help the Town of Shaunavon bring this project into reality.” About Trans Canada Trail
The Trans Canada Trail is the longest multi-use trail system in the world and it is always growing. It reaches every province and territory, and connects all three of Canada’s coastlines. Each section of the Trans Canada Trail is managed locally and supports different activities and community needs.
Trans Canada Trail is the organization that advocates for, stewards and champions Canada’s nationwide trail system. It is a registered charity that receives funding from the Government of Canada (through Parks Canada), various provincial and municipal governments, and generous donors.
“The TransCanada Trail walking path in Shaunavon is one of our community’s most cherished amenities,” said Shawn Lingenfelter, Town Councillor/chairperson for the Shaunavon Wellness & Leisure Committee. “We are incredibly grateful for the generous funding from TransCanada Trail, which will enable us to light up the walkway. This improvement will not only enhance safety but also extend the hours our community can enjoy this vital recreational space.”
The project will be completed in partnership with SaskPower in the coming weeks, please watch this Facebook page for updates and work notices when the project begins, and respect the stakes placed along the trail.
