Please be advised that The Town of Shaunavon closed the water lines from the reservoirs in order to get the swabs in for swabbing Section 2. Water has now been restored. Because Section 2 uses the water tower and reservoir, the water needed to be turned off. Moving forward, there should not be any more disruptions, except when your section is being swabbed. We apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE: FRIDAY AUG 8, 2019, 8:30AM

WATER MAIN CLEANING SCHEDULED FOR AUG 19-24

Please be advised that the Town of Shaunavon will be cleaning water mains (swabbing, flushing and disinfecting) during the week of Aug. 19-24, 2019 between the hours of approximately 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. This work is being done to improve the system water quality, reduce disinfection chemical use, lessen distribution pumping costs, and increase the overall reliability of the water distribution system.

This process WILL result in:
• Discolored water
• Interruption of water service
• Partial or complete loss of water pressure
**No area should be without water for more than approx. 3 hours at a time.

The Town of Shaunavon will be divided into sections for swabbing and cleaning. This means residents should only be affected when their section of the main line is being swabbed. Each section will be affected for approximately 3 hours. This project will take the timeline of Aug 19-24th to complete all sections. Although all town residents WILL be affected, it will not be at the same time, nor should it be for the full week. The Town of Shaunavon will provide ‘real-time’ updates on Shaunavon.com and Town of Shaunavon’s facebook page as each section is complete. Please refer to the map to view sections and the order that they will be swabbed.

Suggestions:
• The Town of Shaunavon requests that you limit your water use during this time
• Fill containers with water for drinking and cooking prior to cleaning procedures
• Store some water in your bath tub for flushing toilets (a gallon bucket of water poured into the toilet bowl will create a flushing effect)
• Turn the shut off valve at your water meter OFF, to ensure no water is used by accidental flushing or turning on of taps.
• If you have a water softener or reverse osmosis water system, put them on bypass or isolate to prevent debris from entering them
• Do NOT attempt to wash laundry while swabbing procedures are taking place

When water is restored, run a cold water tap in the sink or bath tub for 5-10 minutes to clear the water in the service lines from the street to your home. If water does not clear up after running the tap for 30 minutes, or you experience pressure loss after swabbing is complete, please contact the Town Office at (306) 297-2605.

Thank you for your understanding during this important project.

UPDATE: WEDNESDAY JUNE 19, 9:30AM
WATER MAIN SWABBING RESCHEDULED FOR WEEK OF AUGUST 18th, 2019.

Due to Government Agency requirements, The Town of Shaunavon has postponed our Water Main swabbing program until the week of August 18th, 2019.

We will provide ample notice prior to the swabbing through Shaunavon.com, The Town of Shaunavon’s facebook page, The Shaunavon Standard, and CJSN.

We appreciate everyone for taking the necessary steps to prepare for this, and apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE: TUESDAY JUNE 18, 9:55PM
WATER MAIN SWABBING DELAYED UNTIL THE RESERVOIR HAS REFILLED.
***Please limit your water use during this time***

Reservoir cleaning took longer than projected due to the amount of cleaning required. This means the water supply at the reservoir will not be replenished to begin swabbing by 8am as originally projected. This process needs the reservoir to be full to get the water pressure needed to push the swab through the lines.

We will be touching base with the Water Security Agency first thing in the morning, and will provide updates as we receive them.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE: TUESDAY JUNE 18, 11:40AM
ATTN SHAUNAVON RESIDENTS & BUSINESS OWNERS
RE: WATER MAIN CLEANING
Step one of the water main cleaning involved draining, cleaning and refilling our reservoir. This should be completed by this evening.

Step 2 will be swabbing the lines. There are approximately 12 runs throughout the Town of Shaunavon, and we are anticipating 3 runs per day. Attached is a map, with a legend indicating the location of the runs, as well as the order in which they will be swabbed (from 1-12).

Given that the reservoir has been refilled by this evening, swabbing will commence at approximately 8am tomorrow and will affect Centre Street and will continue in the order as indicated on the map. Centre street is the longest run mapped out for the town, and may take longer to swab than the other runs.

It is projected that once a run has been swabbed, that you should no longer be affected, except for a variance in water pressure which should return back to normal shortly after affected.

Effectively immediately, we ask that residents limit their water use to prevent pulling debris in from the lines to your taps until swabbing is complete.

The Town of Shaunavon has requested updates and communication as to when a run is complete, and when they will be commencing on the next run. We will post these updates to Town of Shaunavon facebook page and website immediately as they are communicated to us.

Water Main Cleaning has not been completed since 2000. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this important procedure.

JUNE 11, 2019: NOTICE TO RESIDENTS - WATER MAIN CLEANING

Please be advised that the Town of Shaunavon will be cleaning water mains (swabbing, flushing and disinfecting) during June 17-25 between the hours of approximately 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. This work is being done to improve the system water quality, reduce disinfection chemical use, lessen distribution pumping costs, and increase the overall reliability of the water distribution system.

Swabbing involves cleaning the water mains with foam swabs followed by high velocity water. A swab is inserted at a hydrant and pushed along the water main by water pressure and removed further down the main out another fire hydrant. Water main valves are systematically opened /closed to direct swabs to the point of exit. Swabs compress against the walls of the pipe and remove built up tuberculation as they move along. The increased flow of water following the swab removes any additional debris from the mains. The hydrant is left flowing until the water is clear, and meets the Regulatory requirements set out by the Water Security Agency.

This process WILL result in:
• Discolored water
• Interruption of water service
• Partial or complete loss of water pressure
**No area should be without water for more than approx. 3 hours at a time.
