The Grand Coteau Museum was founded in 1931 by members of the Canadian Club, to preserve and display specimens and artifacts from SW Saskatchewan. While the Museum primarily collected artifacts, archival material was collected as well. The Collection quickly grew through donations from private individuals.
Archival material, more so than artifacts, is often ‘unique’– meaning that they are one-of-a-kind. They relate the human story of Shaunavon, and they help tell us where we came from. The collection includes:
- The entire collection of The Shaunavon Standard newspaper, dating back to 1913
- Obituaries
- Photographs including collections from local residents, past and present
- Old town photos
- History Books - a large collection of history books from all over the Southwest and Saskatchewan
